The career journalist has crafted an eclectic experience in broadcasting from the exotic tropics of the Virgin Islands to the cosmopolitan capital streets of Washington, D.C., but Alan Lee’s heart belongs to his beloved hometown of Chicago. Alan began his award-winning Journalism career at the acclaimed Purdue University newspaper, The Exponent, where he rose to the position of Sports Editor while still an undergrad. After earning his Journalism Degree, Alan left the chill of the Midwest to become a sports reporter in sunny St. Thomas, USVI.
His stint in the Islands became a crash course in mastering multimedia, where Alan also juggled jobs as a nighttime radio disc jockey and Sports Director of St. Thomas’ CBS television station, WBNB-TV. The rich flavor of island life provided one of the many fascinating future backdrops for the characters of Sandstorm.
From the Virgin Islands, Alan returned to the Windy City where he cut his teeth on major metropolitan news as an Assignment Desk Editor for powerhouse NBC affiliate WMAQ-TV.
After a stint in sports at the CBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana, Alan accepted a newly-created co-anchor position on the morning show of Washington, D.C’s NBC station, WRC-TV. In addition to sharing the hallways with journalism legends like Robert Hagar, Fred Francis and Tim Russert, Alan had the privilege of covering the storied Washington newsbeats of the White House, the Pentagon and the CIA. It was here Alan’s burning lifelong interest in espionage truly caught fire, and where the first seeds of Sandstorm began to germinate.
Eventually, Alan was cajoled away from the Capital to become the Morning Anchor at Detroit’s Fox station, WJBK-TV. Alan has helped build Fox 2 News Morning into a ratings juggernaut, by combining his signature blend of seasoned journalism with an uncanny knack for making every guest, from politicians to entertainers, feel welcome and at ease. Alan has particularly enjoyed interviewing and learning from the myriad of best-selling authors who make it a point to visit Fox 2 during the Detroit legs of their book tours.
Alan resides in suburban Detroit with his wife, their two sons and their two canine children, Bosco and Daisy.
