Then Kat began to whimper as she tried not to make too much noise. David felt her clamp down on his shaft as her orgasm began. Then it felt like he was in a milking machine as the walls of her sex did wonderful things to Mr. Happy. He didn’t even try to hold back as he let loose.

As soon as the excitement was over, Kat pushed David away.

“Hurry up before we get caught,” she stated matter-of-factly.

He sniffed the air, and it didn’t smell like coffee. Doreen would figure this out without much effort.

David pulled up his shorts, and Kat all but pushed him out of the back room. He came out to find Doreen giving him a knowing look.

“I take it I’ll see you tomorrow?” she asked.

David gave her a sheepish look and then winked.

“Get out before I decide I need a wake-up myself,” she snorted.

’Yep. She knows,’ he thought as he left with his tea.

After David was done with classes for the day, he was on his way to the building’s exit when Crystal appeared out of the crowd and blocked his path.

“Something I can do for you?” he asked.

“Take me to lunch.”

“Why not?” he decided.

She took him to Moreton Fig, a restaurant located near the center of campus. It was run by USC Hospitality, which also operated and managed the USC Hotel and 43 other food and beverage venues.

David hadn’t previously eaten there because it was reputed to be more of a fine-dining place. The server claimed that it got much of its produce from the USC Teaching Garden.

It was a great day, weather-wise, so they sat on the patio. Crystal went for the grilled prawn salad while David picked a prime rib sandwich.

“What’s this all about?” he finally asked.

To this point, neither of them had said a word to the other.

“Do you plan to go to summer school?”

That was the last question he would have expected her to ask. She read the confusion on his face.

“That was probably a dumb question because all football players are here for the summer. What I want to know is if you’ve decided on housing,” Crystal said.

The Palace would be closed over the summer, forcing David to move into the townhouse for a couple of months. He planned to keep his room in The Palace next year, and Kirk had put in a request to be David’s roommate.

That was because it looked like Alex wasn’t coming back next fall. David had learned that from Nat, Alex’s sister, when their paths had crossed a few weeks ago. Alex was doing well on his national soccer team and had been approached to play for a professional team when he was done with the World Cup this summer.

“As it happens, I’m going to meet with my advisor after lunch to work out my summer classes,” David shared.

“Great!” Crystal said with a tad too much excitement. “Matt, Milena, and I are looking for a summer place.”

“That’s nice,” David said, seeing where this was going.

“I thought it would be a great way for you and Matt to make nice, and the four of us could do couple’s stuff.”

Instead of just saying ‘no’ as he’d decided, David decided to play along and see where her twisted mind had gone with this plan.

“How will this work? Will we get ourselves a cozy two-bedroom place? A little love shack?” he asked.

“Milena tells me that you have a townhouse close to the football practice facilities. I thought we could use that for the summer. That way, we can all have our own bedrooms,” Crystal suggested.

“Right now, one of the bedrooms is used as an office. And I think Cassidy is staying for the summer. We’re back to two bedrooms.” Then he paused dramatically. “I didn’t think Milena wanted us to be a couple.”

Crystal was a bright girl and saw that the jig was up.

“Hey, I figured it was worth a shot,” she said unapologetically.

“When are you and I going to hook up?” David asked to tweak her in return.

The look she gave him was priceless. Then she smiled.

“You had to take a shot, right?” she asked as she figured it out.

“You got me. Now can we retract the claws and just get along?”

“You’re good. Matt told me that you were making nice. I just wonder if you’re for real or if it’s just an act,” Crystal stated to challenge David.

“Fair question,” he admitted. “I’ve been involved in teams that had internal conflicts, and I learned that never ends well.

“Matt seems to want to sweep everything under the rug here. I’ll point out that you asked for help. When I gave it, not only did he never thank me, he abandoned me to my fate there. Then he tries to get me hurt. I’m willing to set those aside in the interest of the team, but I’m not going to forget.

“But anyway, if you only get one takeaway from our lunch, just know I’m deadly serious about turning USC into what it should be. It should be a team that’s in the mix for winning it all each year.”

“How do you see Matt fitting in?”

“Right now, he’s the starting quarterback. If he plays up to his potential, I’ll have to wait my turn. In the meantime, I’ll do whatever is needed for the team to succeed,” David said.

She gave him an appraising look before saying anything further.

“I almost believe you.”

He just shrugged.

“Honestly, the only person who needs to believe it is Matt. I would rather he worked towards making USC great than spend his time on efforts that tear the team apart in the name of protecting his turf. Just know that I don’t give up. If I have to, I will beat him out,” David warned.

“And there it is,” Crystal said.

“Yep. I’ll say it again so we’re clear. If Matt sticks to his knitting and leaves me alone, I won’t mess with him.”

She decided to drop it at that point. Instead, she wanted to know about David and Milena. He told her to talk to her friend. In the end, he thought Crystal got the point he tried to make. The real question was, would Matt? All David cared about was that the message was delivered. He’d put Matt on notice.

David went to the Stevens Academic Center to meet with Dr. Carter about his summer classes.

“There’s my star student,” she said as he came into her office.

Someone had looked at his preliminary grades.

“I need to register for summer school,” David said as he took a seat.

“All you need to do is take one class so that you can use the football facilities. Do you have an idea of what you want to take?”

“My goal is to find the quickest way to graduate and then get my MBA before I get out of here. I would prefer to take a full load over the summer.”

Dr. Carter looked over her glasses at him.

“You sure?”

“Yes, ma’am,” he answered.

“Okay. Let’s map out a plan to get you there. Just know that if it gets to be too much, you can always drop a class or two,” she advised.

He nodded to show his understanding.

Dr. Carter talked about what he had to take to obtain his degree and what his electives were. She had some keen insights as to what would work best. In the end, David was happy. He loaded up on Tuesday and Thursday classes to give him four-day weekends if needed. That way, he could also more easily meet his movie obligations.

In the end, they agreed on his schedule.

Chapter 68

Lexi

Lexi was in a foul mood. She’d had to skip a day of classes at UCLA to follow Halle James around and hold her hand. Lexi had received a text from Flo, Halle’s security and driver, that she was on her way to pick her up. Lexi exited her condo to find a Range Rover waiting for her with Halle already in the back seat.

“Ms. James,” Lexi said as she got into the car.

“Stop that right now. We talked about this; it’s Halle. I’m sure David would have a cow if you called him Mr. Dawson.”

“It can be fun to call him that sometimes,” Lexi confessed.
