“He doesn’t need to be,” the Chancellor answered, “we’ll have everything handled. Olivia will go to Genesis and Jaxon will accompany her.”
“When?” I asked. I didn’t know how viable our plan would be. There were plenty of details to work out. It was a start though, the slightest bit of hope in an otherwise dire world.
“A few weeks before spring. Until then you’ll both train and prepare for whatever you might encounter,” the Chancellor told us.
Joshua spoke up, “what about me? Why can’t I go in Jaxon’s place?”
Jaxon laughed softly, “you said it yourself. Your father works as the Jobs Commissioner for Genesis. If you show up in his office, he’ll know it’s you.”
Joshua sighed glancing at me, “you don’t have to do this.”
I paused, knowing the answer but still taking the time to think it through. If we wanted a chance at a new future and fresh start, this was the next step in taking it. Though I wanted no one to die in the coming war, I knew it was unrealistic. I needed to be strong, brave and prepared for the long road ahead. I recognized the risks, and now understood the dangers. I was not going to watch by the sidelines while those beside me, recruits, risked their lives for my freedom. I would stand among them and fight for the world we desired. I believed it was still attainable, within our grasp, and would be won. “I’m in.” I acknowledged.
“Welcome to Shadow,” Chancellor Collins stood up and held out his hand, accepting us as part of the rebel alliance.
