"But what were they doing in the winter, then?"	-- Да зимой-то что ж?
"But what did you want the carpenter for?"	-- Да вам насчет чего угодно плотника?
"Where are the hurdles for the calves' paddock?"	-- Где решетки с телячьего двора?
"I ordered them to be got ready.	-- Приказал снести на места.
What would you have with those peasants!" said the bailiff, with a wave of his hand.	Что прикажете с этим народом! -- сказал приказчик, махая рукой.
"It's not those peasants but this bailiff!" said Levin, getting angry. "Why, what do I keep you for?" he cried.	-- Не с этим народом, а с этим приказчиком!--сказал Левин, вспыхнув. -- Ну для чего я вас держу! -- закричал он.
But, bethinking himself that this would not help matters, he stopped short in the middle of a sentence, and merely sighed. "Well, what do you say? Can sowing begin?" he asked, after a pause.
