The plaque commemoral ng Lenin's stay dates the year erroneously as 1911. According to documents in the file on 'Tcheklov' (sic) in the Archives Municipales de Nice, the Chekhov plaque was affixed in 1963 by the city of Nice, following the lobbying of the local 'poete. artiste and cineaste' W. J. Zapp Kamensky, to commemorate the centenary of his birth in 1960; See also L'Esprit, 24 June 1963.

Following the difficult process of repatriation which began in the late 1980s, there are now about 300,000 Tatars living in the Crimea today (about 12 per cent of the total population), with approximately another 300,000 living in Central Asia, following their deportation under Stalin. About 5 million Tatars live in Turkey. See Greta Lynn Uehling, 'The Crimean Tatars' in Encyclopaedia of the Minorities, Chicago, 2002.
