ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dubravka Ugresic is a writer of novels (Baba Yaga Laid an Egg, The Museum of Unconditional Surrender), short story collections (Lend Me Your Character, In the Jaws of Life), and books of essays (Nobody’s Home, Karaoke Culture). Born in the former Yugoslavia, Ugresic took a firm anti-nationalistic stand when war broke out in 1991, and was proclaimed a “traitor,” a “public enemy,” and a “witch.” As a result, she left Croatia in 1993 and currently lives in Amsterdam. Her last collection of essays, Karaoke Culture, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle award for nonfiction.
