He handed me the coffee then went inside for something. The brisk morning breeze was definitely chillier than I was accustomed to.

Quentin returned with a blanket that he wrapped around my shoulders. I loved this chivalrous, thoughtful side of him. Between that and his darker, kinkier side—I felt like he was the perfect man for me. Not only did he tick all the boxes, but I connected with him like I’d never connected with anyone.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

I let the blanket and the warm coffee warm me as I watched the sky begin to blaze with ethereal colors. Quentin picked up his own mug and sat next to me, placing an arm around my shoulders.

The smell of fall tickled my nose. We wouldn’t have weather like this for months in Texas, so it was a welcome experience.

“It’s nice up here.” I rested my hand on his knee and scooted closer to him.

“I agree. I get a lot of inspiration from nature, so this is a great place to work.”

“You have a lovely place.”

“Lovelier now that you’re here.”

I blushed. I liked this lighter, flirtier side of MC. “You know, you’re not that bad of a guy,” I teased.

“I’m not?” He tousled my hair and pulled me closer.

“No. I could get used to this,” I said, admiring the view.

“Me too.”

It still surprised me that Quentin had opened his heart to me. I turned to look at him. “I’m so happy, here with you.”

“I hoped you would be, that’s why I wanted you to come up here and see what my life was like. I know you have a job in Texas, and your family is there, but I think I have a lot to offer you here as well.”

Whoa, it sounded like he’d thought this out. Possibly even further out than I had. “What is it you want? I mean, what are you looking for, Quentin?”

His jaw was set with determination when he said, “Eventually, I want a wife and a family. It gets lonely out here. I make do with the internet, contact with you… But I don’t want to do that for the rest of my life.”

“But just a few weeks ago you decided you didn’t want to get closer to me, and you pushed me away.” As happy as I was now, it wasn’t long ago that he was the source of my misery, and I couldn’t help myself from reminding him.

“I was wrong. A knee-jerk macho reaction. I’m sorry for that. I’m not perfect, Sophie. Far from it.”

I hugged him closer. “Perfect for me.”

He stroked my hair. “And you’re perfect for me.”

Something he said registered with me now, a little late, and I leaned back to eye him suspiciously. “Did you say family… that you wanted a family?”

He shrugged. “Why is that so hard to believe? I told you before that I like kids.”

That’s right, he did.

“And last night, in the parking lot, you didn’t wear a condom, did you? Or when you took me in the stocks?”

He shook his head.

“I’m not on the Pill, Quentin. The only person I’ve been having sex with for as long as I can remember is myself.”

“I know. I should have, but I got caught up in the moment.”

I grimaced, wondering why I hadn’t thought of it myself. I was seriously out of practice being with a real man.

“Hey, but if it happens, it happens…” He smiled.

If I turned out to be pregnant, he would be happy! Not just accepting, but happy. That realization bumped our relationship up to a new level.

“Oh my God! You are a devil.” I swatted him on the arm playfully. “I can’t believe you did that. You’re trying to get me knocked up.”

He shook his head, his mouth forming a lazy grin. “That’s not true. If I were truly trying to breed you—you’d know it.”

“Breed me?”

He nodded and crushed his lips to mine. Even first thing in the morning he tasted divine, and even sitting on a bench our bodies conformed perfectly to one another. He took my mouth, invading me with his tongue, making me swoon for more. I slid my hand from his thigh to his crotch and found, with great satisfaction, that he was hard. Gripping his cock through his boxers, I eagerly began to stroke him.

“You are going to make us spill all this coffee, you little slut, and I’m going to have to make you pay for it.” He shook his head, but I could tell by the sparkle in his eyes he wasn’t really mad.

“I’m sorry, sir.”

“You should be. You must ask permission to touch my cock.”

As insane as that sounded, it made me even more hot for him, and my nipples strained against the blanket. “Yes, sir.”

“At least wait until after breakfast,” he said, and kissed me again. “After that, it’s all yours.”
