"Но вот парадокс — переживание искусства не может быть эффективно использовано ни с этой, ни с какой-либо другой целью. Это должна быть бесцельная деятельность, в том смысле, в каком мы понимаем «цель». Оно может быть только переживанием бытия: бытия человеческим организмом, делающим то, что он должен и вправе делать, — остро и полнокровно ощущающим жизнь, затрачивающим энергию и создающим красоту по своему усмотрению, — а обострение чувств, цельность, получение результата и хорошее самоощущение являются лишь побочными продуктами" (179 с. 213).
