После Фив, после ошеломляющего унижения, которое преподнесла Эдипу середина жизни, он проводит последние годы в жалких скитаниях, гадая, что же ещё приготовили для него боги. Он познаёт, впитывает, добирается до Колона, где боги благословляют его за искренность путешествия. Дело не в том, что он создал свою жизнь, а в том, что позволил, наконец, жизни создать его, как и было задумано богами. Ценой этого дара, одновременно драгоценного и опасного, стали изгнание и страдания; ценой же за то, что он так и не нашёл своего призвания, оказались невежество, мелочность и уничтожение души.
Эдип – наша лучшая парадигма, потому что он соблюдал всё, что ему было предназначено. Мы все были брошены в мир данностей, и каждый из нас уже побывал в Фивах, в жизни, которая движется по законам коллективных норм, подкреплённых раздутым, бредовым сознанием ранней взрослости. Но каждому из нас также назначена и встреча в Колоне. Выполним ли мы всё, что нам суждено, прежде чем прибудем в оговорённое место? Долгие годы изгнания и страданий, обогащённые мудростью, которая является даром такого путешествия, – только после его обретения мы сможем наконец добраться до нашего личного Колона, к жизни, предназначенной нам богами. И окажемся в точке, в которой жизнь создаст нас.
Так куда же мы попали? На какой дороге оказались: на той, что вечно кружит по Фивам, или на той, что ведёт в неизвестное место, где мы можем обрести смысл нашего путешествия?
