Appendix II

GERMAN COMBAT UNITS IN THE BATTLE

This appendix presents all the information available on the condition and organization of the German units that took part in the battle.

We have opted to retain the German terminology as far as possible in this appendix, since often there is no direct translation available in English. Some terms that often appear in German strength returns and might need clarification are:1

Verpflegungsstärke

Ration strength, i. e. the number of men the unit was ordered to provide with necessary substance. Thus it could include sick, wounded, prisoners of war, non-military man power and manpower from other military organisations.
