After the melee at the queen’s reception, Sookie and Quinn arrive back at Amelia’s to find that during a tryst with one of her fellow witches, Bob, she has turned him into a cat and cannot reverse the spell. Amelia and Bob move to Bon Temps with Sookie to get a little distance from her coven while she works on transforming Bob back. Amelia remains with Sookie through the summer and so misses the disaster of Hurricane Katrina. She fills her time with part-time jobs, including filling in at Merlotte’s when needed, shopping, and trying to transform Bob. She doesn’t seem to lack for income, a condition explained when she tells Quinn and Sookie that her father is Copley Carmichael, a well-known wheeler-dealer. Broadway is her mother’s maiden name. She is tracked down by her mentor, coven leader Octavia Fant, who is now living close by in Monroe with a niece after her own home was destroyed by Katrina. After the two perform another ectoplasmic reconstruction to solve the murder of Maria-Star Cooper and then cast a spell on Tanya Grissom to rid her of the influence of Sandra Pelt, Octavia moves in with Sookie and Amelia and changes Bob back to human. Amelia briefly dates Pam and then begins a solid relationship with Were Tray Dawson, a lone-wolf mechanic who also works as a bodyguard. She stands proudly by as Tray shifts in Merlotte’s with Sam during the Great Reveal and looks forward to a future with him. But when Tray is poisoned and attacked by fairies and then dies defending Sookie at Dr. Ludwig’s hospital, Amelia is heartbroken and decides to return to New Orleans to pick up the pieces of her life there.
Back in New Orleans and working at the Genuine Magic Shop, which is owned by her coven, Amelia gets back together with Bob. They travel to Bon Temps to renew the wards on Sookie’s house. Amelia reveals that she has found a way to break Sookie’s blood bond with Eric. The two witches successfully perform the ceremony. Amelia shares this news with Alcide Herveaux and encourages him to pursue Sookie, a bad decision that results in Amelia being banished from Sookie’s house. Bruce: No last name given. Accountant Bruce is understandably nervous as Sookie reads his mind when he is one of the humans questioned about money embezzled from Fangtasia, even though he is innocent. His main concern is what will become of his wife, Lillian, and children, Bobby and Heather, if he is killed by Eric. (DUD)
Brunswick, Solomon (vampire): Solomon is traveling around New England in 1768, making a living as a tinker and trader, when he encounters a vampire in the woods one night. The vampire follows him and drinks from him a second time, accidentally turning him and leaving him to fend for himself. Solomon makes his way to New Orleans, and while leaving a brothel, he sees a prostitute cutting the throat of a customer who has tried to skip paying for her services. He reveals his nature by partaking of the victim’s blood and finds a kindred spirit of sorts in prostitute Lorena Ball, turning the willing woman to become his companion.
Solomon is ultimately betrayed by Lorena, and the two part ways. He currently resides in Europe. (Mentioned DITF, DR)
Bubba (vampire): No real first or last name given. Also known as the Man from Memphis, Bubba has a famous face and an even more famous voice. When he was taken down to the morgue on that August evening in 1977, one of the morgue attendants was not only a vampire but also a huge fan. Detecting a faint spark of life, the attendant hastily brought him over. Unfortunately, the drugs that had plagued him in life made his transition less than perfect. He is a loyal soldier who will follow orders to the letter, but he is not capable of much independent thought. His fans in the vampire world try to keep him hidden and protected. He doesn’t always remember to stay out of sight when left on his own, so the public does get an occasional glimpse of the real thing. Bubba gets upset when called by his birth name, answering only to his nickname. He prefers not to feed on human beings and survives on a diet of animal blood, mainly cats—an aberration in the vampire world—and synthetic blood.
Bill introduces Bubba to Sookie, and Bubba often looks after her, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Bubba is fond of Bill.
He is drawn into the plot to assassinate Victor by being the bait used to lure the Elvis fan to Fangtasia. Although reluctant at first, he agrees when Bill is called to convince him that it is necessary. He does his job the following night, captivating his audience (for the most part) and distracting Victor before the attack. Bureau of Vampire Affairs (BVA): The BVA is in charge of overseeing federal legislation regarding vampire issues, setting the guidelines for vampire behavior, and investigating any claims involving vampires. Following the announcement of the existence of shifters, Congress is considering expanding the BVA’s authority to include the weres and changing the name to the Bureau of Vampire and Supernatural Affairs, which would conveniently cover the revelation of any other type of supernatural being. Burgess, Randy: Randy Burgess of Burgess and Son gravels Sookie’s driveway on Eric’s orders. (Mentioned CD)
Burley, Amy: Barmaid Amy puts in an application at Merlotte’s while subbing at the Good Times Bar but is murdered before Sam can speak to her about a job. (Mentioned, dies DUD)
Burnham, Bobby: Bobby works as Eric’s daytime employee, accomplishing tasks the vampire cannot do while the sun is out, including delivering the package containing the knife to Sookie at Merlotte’s. He openly dislikes Sookie, not understanding why Eric and Pam hold her in such regard. Bobby is fiercely loyal to Eric and stays at Eric’s home to try to help him deal with Alexei the night he goes insane. Bobby and Felicia, whom he is dating, both die at Alexei’s hands. Cait (fairy): No last name given. Cait is captured and her blood rubbed onto glasses offered by Victor to Eric and Pam at Vampire’s Kiss in an attempt to intoxicate them. There is little hope for her survival because she was taken by vampires, and the fae are called together to find out if she has family and if they have had a death vision. (Mentioned, dies DR)
Callaway, Donald: Donald, along with partner Brenda Hesterman, buys, sells, and appraises antiques at their shop, Splendide, in Shreveport. He accompanies Brenda to Sookie’s house to appraise the items from her attic and finds a secret compartment in Mitchell’s old desk that contains a letter from Gran and the cluviel dor. (DR)
Callisto (maenad): No last name given. Callisto arrives in Bon Temps seeking those who provide and enjoy drink and pleasures of the flesh. She uses Sookie as a messenger to Eric to demand tribute, viciously scratching and poisoning her back. Although Eric sacrifices a bull to her, she is not satisfied and wanders the woods with Sam in collie form as her companion. When the orgy is held at Jan Fowler’s lake house, Callisto is attracted to the lust and drunkenness and arrives to take her own tribute, sending her madness into the partygoers, destroying them. Sated, she bids a fond farewell to Sam and continues on her way. (LDID)
Cannon, Velda: As a member of the Descendants of the Glorious Dead, Velda is part of the group that heads to Vicksburg to see the battlefields. Despite a little incident with inadequate Depends, Velda, her comrades, and Sookie all have a wonderful time. (Mentioned CD)
