Аннотация
As originally published in “The Shadow Magazine,” May 1, 1933.
Clyde Burke, one of the Shadow's agents, is on a steamship. Clyde tries to send a message to the Shadow, but it never reaches him. The ship is attacked by a mob and people are killed. There is a shipment of gold that is taken, and the thieves make their get-away.
The rest of the novel involves Harry Vincent going to a small cove with few people there. There are three major characters; an artist, a professor, and a man that seems to want nothing to do with anyone else.
The professor wants to start some kind of Utopia and gives various lectures on it. People begin to disappear, though, and the Shadow has Harry find out what he can. The Shadow has his own run-ins with the thugs and there's a really heavy body count of crooks in this novel. There's no holding back on the part of the Shadow, either, as many of the crooks die during the various gun battles that take place.
